Tutoring Program

Our Savior offers a free tutoring program on Tuesday evenings for students, kindergarten through grade 12. The students come mainly from Laurel area schools who need help in math and reading. Students are assigned a tutor who meets with them weekly for 45 minutes. If possible, the tutor takes a second student for the next 45- minute session (7:00-7:45 p.m. and/or 7:45-8:30 p.m.). With a little refreshment, a drink and cookies, everyone is charged for an evening of studying.

Some people think one has to be able to teach algebra or be skilled in writing English prose but most students could use letter recognition, letter sounds (A like in Apple), comprehension, writing mechanics, help with spelling, knowledge of how to do 42 +19 versus 42 – 19. Hopefully you can tell that any one of us has the ability to help most of our students. Some students have been studying with us for at least six years, they like us so much.
