Welcome! Hospitality
Contact:Michele Racine
Purpose:
The Hospitality Ministry chair is responsible for coordinating the volunteers of serving food for church-wide events and coordinating Parish Fellowship-wide events. The church's Hospitality ministry is actually more than just serving food.
- Serving food
- Miscellaneous Hospitality opportunities
- Where you can help
Serving Food:
Major events of serving food include:
- Weekly Wednesday Night dinners (September through May) these include Advent & Lenten Dinners
- Congregational-Wide Meetings/Assemblies - normally held 4 times each year - January, April, June and September after the 11 AM service
- Special events - Pastor Roasts, Pastor Celebration Dinners, Church Anniversary
- Rally Day picnic - held in September
- Leader's/Officer Retreat - held one time per year
As might guess, Hospitality utilizes the church's kitchen a lot, although the kitchen is used by many different groups. An old Lutheran joke is that if you'd like to have a lot of people attend a church function you're coordinating, stuff them with food first and then inform them second!
The church has a full commercial kitchen. The new kitchen includes a double stove with 6 burners, and much more room to handle more cooking
Miscellaneous Hospitality opportunities
Other than serving food, here are other various ways in which Hospitality plays an important role at OSLC:
- Hospitality also ensures there are enough bulk paper goods and cups for church-related functions to take place. Therefore, frequent visits to Sam's and Costco are sometimes necessary when supplies get low.
- Coffee hour supplies are also necessary during fellowship times that occur on Sunday and other times. We use coffee money to ensure there is enough coffee, tea, hot chocolate, stir rods, creamer, sugar, Sweet and Low plus Equal.
Where you can help:
There are several areas within the Hospitality Ministry in which you could assist:
- We desperately need a co-director of the Hospitality Ministry. This person would be able to listen and bounce ideas off of. We need also need people who could be a lead coordinator for an event - that person would need to be the go-to type person for one event. They would also enjoy planning an event and enjoy watching the event happen from start to finish. Events that we have thought of having might include:
- Scavenger Hunt
- October Fest
- Pool Party
- Apple-picking party and hayride
- Small day-trips
- Games Night
- Picnics
- We need people to help bussing tables, serving food, and loading the dishwasher for the weekly Wednesday Night Dinners, the Advent Dinners, and Lenten Dinners
- We need people who enjoy cooking and serving to medium-sized groups of people.
We always need Helper bees, who are able to take orders and get stuff done quickly.
Do any of these activities interest you? Contact: Michele Racine
As you can tell, we have needs for people of all skills and talents. Please consider participating in the many church fellowship events and perhaps, leading one in the future!
