Welcome!

Prayer Groups

Our Savior Lutheran Church is a praying church. There are several groups and several prayer chains in existence that are devoted to praying. Also prayers are requested on Sunday mornings or in the Grapevine. Prayers and praying are taken seriously because, very simply, prayer changes things. God listens to each prayer. On occasion there are Prayer Vigils held at Our Savior. These usually occur when there is a special need or during the Lenten season.

If you have prayer requests please call or email the appropriate person listed in the paragraphs below. Here is what happens with the various requests made for prayer:

  • Weekly church attendance cards - These prayers are then gathered and given to the church staff and also sent to the Elders or Shepherds who pray for these requests. (Contact person: Nancy Iliff Prayers).

  • Prayer Chain - These prayers are sent out to the Prayer Chain participants by e-mail as soon as possible with a copy sent to the church office staff. The people on the Prayer Chain pray and the pastors and staff are alerted. (Contact person: Carol Ann Snyder Prayers.
  • The Hunter Prayer Chain: handles prayer requests that are usually requested for  grandchildren - These prayers are sent out via email to the members of the Hunter Prayer Chain all of whom are praying grandmas. (Contact person: Brenda Petito evangelism.

  • The church office: is called by someone with a prayer concern, the persons requesting the prayers are asked how they want these prayer requests handled. The options are to have them put on the regular Prayer Chain or the Hunter Prayer Chain, added to the list in the Grapevine, or listed in the prayers that are announced on Sunday mornings. A request for prayers can be left on the church voice mail or by note a note to the church office (with instructions regarding how the request should be handled, prayer chain, Grapevine/Sounds, or in church prayers on Sunday or all of these). If no instructions are given, the disposition of the request will be handled at the Pastor's discretion.

  • Open Arms Prayers: Way before construction was even begun on the new building for the child development center, over 60 people prayed every week for Open Arm concerns. In addition, the prayers became a part of the weekly Grapevine and those not on the OPEN ARMS prayer group were invited to join their prayers along with the group. These prayers continue under the care of the Open Arms Director, Contact Person: Cynthia Tillman contact Cynthia Tillman/Open Arms .

  • "Those In Harm’s Way": Please also take the opportunity weekly to pray for the men and women on this list that is in the Sounds of Our Savior. These are people who have either been deployed or are living or working in any of the war-torn areas, particularly in the Middle East. You may persons to this list by contacting our Office Manager,(Nancy Shampo)contact office manager.

  • SED Churches: As the Grapevine reports every week, there are over 200 churches in the Southeastern District and each week Our Savior prays for one of them. The reason we do this is to support the president of the Southeastern District, Dr. Jon Diefenthaler, our former pastor. (Contact Person:Nancy Iliff Prayers).

  • The Gethsemane Prayer Group: If you’ve been around the church for awhile, you have surely heard of this prayer group. Every month, this dedicated prayer group prays for the pastors, leaders, and the work of the church. (Contact Person: René Stein René Stein).

  • Parkview Senior Community Prayer Groups: The Parkview Senior Community has two meetings. The first one meets on the 1st and 3rd. Thursdays of each month from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Community Room of Parkview 1. The second Bible Study group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the Parkview 2 Community Room.

  • The Youth Group at Our Savior is also active in the Prayer Ministry. Their adult youth group committee, the Youth Groupies, which meet regularly, devote part of their meetings to prayer. The youth are currently revitalizing their own Youth Prayer Chain where prayers may be directed for the youth. Contact Person: Natasha Bowlds contact Natasha Bowlds/Youth Director.

There are other groups in the church that dedicate part of their meetings to prayer and/or to Bible study. These include, but are not limited to, Manna in the Morning, Manna for Moms, HOME Bible Study Groups, LWML,  XYZ Seniors’ Group, Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study Group, Crossways, Alpha Groups, and Pastor Michael’s Wednesday evening Bible Study. More information about all these groups are in every issue of the Sounds of Our Savior.
